Use FollowUp from Claude or ChatGPT
Ask Claude or ChatGPT to find a lead, catch you up on a conversation, send a text or start a workflow. It works inside your FollowUp account, and every FollowUp rule still applies.

What you can do
Talk to it the way you'd talk to an assistant who knows your leads. For example:
- "Find Dana Lopez and show me our last few texts."
- "Add a lead: Sam Ortiz, 555-201-0147, met at the open house. Tag him Hot."
- "Text Dana: Thanks for the call today, I'll send the numbers tomorrow."
- "Schedule a text to Sam for Tuesday at 10am asking if he's free to talk."
- "Who texted me back since yesterday?"
- "Put Dana in my New Buyer drip sequence." or "Stop all drip sequences for Sam."
- "Add a note to Dana's lead: prefers texts after 5pm."
Claude and ChatGPT usually ask before they send anything, but that's their setting, not ours. Read what's about to go out before you say yes.
Add it to Claude
Works on every Claude plan in the browser and the desktop app (Free plans allow one custom connector).
- Open Customize, then Connectors.
- Click + Add, then Add custom connector.
- Name it FollowUp and paste the connector URL above. Click Continue.
- Leave the sign-in settings on their defaults and click Add.
- Click Connect. A FollowUp page opens. Log in with your FollowUp email and password.
- Check the permissions you want to give, then click Allow.
On a Claude Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds it once under Organization settings, Connectors, Add, Custom, Web. Everyone else then finds FollowUp under Customize, Connectors and clicks Connect to sign in with their own FollowUp login.
To use it in a chat, click + at the bottom left, choose Connectors, and turn FollowUp on.
Add it to ChatGPT
Until FollowUp is listed in ChatGPT's directory, you add it with developer mode. Your workspace admin may need to allow this.
- Open Settings, then Security and login, and turn on Developer mode.
- Open Plugins (called Apps on some accounts) and click +.
- Name it FollowUp and paste the connector URL above as the server URL.
- Create it. A FollowUp page opens. Log in with your FollowUp email and password.
- Check the permissions you want to give, then click Allow.
What you allow
You pick these on the FollowUp sign-in page. Claude or ChatGPT can do only what you check, and only with the leads you can see in FollowUp.
| Permission | Starts |
|---|---|
| See your leads and their contact info | On |
| Add and edit leads, and add notes | On |
| Read your text conversations | On |
| Send and schedule texts to your leads | On |
| Start and stop workflows for a lead | On |
| Add and remove tags | On |
It never gets your password, your billing details, or access to other people's FollowUp accounts.
Safety rules that always apply
Texts go to real people. A sent text can't be unsent. Read what Claude or ChatGPT is about to send before you confirm.
- Quiet hours. Texts only go out during each lead's allowed hours. Outside them, the send is refused and you can schedule it instead.
- Do-not-text rules. Anyone who replied STOP or is marked do not contact is refused, same as in the app. A first text to a number on the National Do Not Call list has to come from the FollowUp app, where you record consent.
- A lead's reply cancels a scheduled text. If they answer first, the scheduled one doesn't go.
- Daily limits. Each connection has its own cap: 10 texts a minute and 50 a day, 50 scheduled texts a day. Your plan's normal limits apply on top.
- Everything is on the record. Texts sent from a chat show up in the lead's conversation in FollowUp, like any other text.
Which plans can text
Any FollowUp account can connect, look up leads, add notes and tags, and read conversations. Sending or scheduling texts needs a paid FollowUp plan with a business texting number. If your plan can't do something, Claude or ChatGPT will tell you.
How to disconnect
In FollowUp, go to Settings, then Connected apps, and click Disconnect next to Claude or ChatGPT. That cuts off access right away.
You can also remove FollowUp from your connectors or plugins in Claude or ChatGPT, but that may not cancel FollowUp's side of the connection. Disconnect in Connected apps to be sure.
Privacy and help
Claude or ChatGPT sees only what you ask it to look up, like a lead's name, number and texts. Read how we handle it in our Privacy Policy. Questions? Email [email protected].
